Truth and Lies--In Quotes

My great grandpa was a very funny man.  He was also very wise.  He used to say, "A smart man can smell a lie a mile away because it ain't nothin' but bull hockey!"   He may not have been eloquent, but he was right.  BS is BS.  You can dress it up as chocolate all you want to , but an intelligent person isn't ever going to believe BS is Godiva.

I have collected an array of equally wise quotes about the truth (and lies).  Enjoy:

Truth is the only safe ground to stand on.--Elizabeth Cady Stanton

How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth? --Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Repetition does not transform a lie into a truth.--Franklin D. Roosevelt
Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. --John 8:32
False words are not only evil in themselves, but they infect the soul with evil. --Plato, Dialogues

I love you, and because I love you I would sooner have you hate me for telling you the truth than adore me for telling you lies. --Pietro Aretino

A half-truth is the most cowardly of lies. --Anonymous

The naked truth is always better than the best dressed lie.--Ann Landers
A half-truth is a whole lie.--Yiddish Proverb
