The Best Laid Plans...

"The best laid schemes of mice and men often go awry."
--John Steinbeck, Of Mice and Men

I am a planner.  I like plans. I like organization. I like to have my life mapped out.  Again and again God (or the universe or whatever spiritual force you want to call it) tries to teach me that, as John Steinbeck wrote, "The best laid schemes of mice and men often go awry."  But I like my plans and so I just keep planning things and hoping these plans do not go awry.

Of course they often do.  I get everything set. I think it is set in stone, and then life throws me a curve ball and I have to adjust my plans.  I've gotten pretty good at adjusting--you know, after freaking and hyperventilating (lol).

I admit that I nearly always have a momentary meltdown when my best laid schemes go awry, but I always pull it together and make the best of it pretty quickly thereafter.

Not everyone can do that. Not everyone is willing or able to roll with the punches, and more times than not most people are not willing and able to put themselves in your shoes to try to roll with YOUR punches.  They'll just leave you standing there in the rain without an umbrella.  It happens.

I've learned that sometimes you just have to do what is best for yourself--even when other people do not understand or approve of your choices.  Sometimes you have to put your spiritual, emotional, and physical needs before other people, and sometimes those other people won't understand that.  I guess that's a life lesson learned and I'll take it to heart.  I'm still going to do what I need to do for myself and my family.
